The Birth of Flawless Productions, LLC
Flawless Productions, LLC was founded by renowned Songwriter and Producer Al Sherman, who has worked with an array of professional artists across all music genres. Sherman's journey into the commercial music industry began after collaborating with musicians, engineers, performers, and fellow songwriters. His work with Lonnie Hill, which resulted in the #1 hit song in England, 'Galveston Bay', was pivotal. This success provided Sherman with the confidence to carve out a competitive niche as a songwriter and music producer.
Turning Back the Hands of Time.
Al Sherman's music career began early, at the age of 9, as a trumpet player in Oakland Public Schools. His dedication to learning music theory, including reading and writing music, set the stage for his success. As he grew, Sherman joined the Musician's Union in the Bay Area, performing gigs and recording as a horn player. Reflecting on his early career, Sherman recalls, “Those were some tough years.”
Recording in the late '60s and early '70s came with its challenges. With only 8-track recording studios, horn sections were recorded with just one mic, making perfection essential. "If one horn player made a mistake, we all had to redo the take,” Sherman shares. There was no post-production magic like autotune—musicians had to know their craft.
Sherman’s experience working with the Natural Four, under Curtis Mayfield's label Curtom Records, deepened his understanding of songwriting. He drew inspiration from iconic songwriters like Leroy Hudson and Curtis Mayfield, learning how to craft songs with a catchy melody and a memorable hook.
This foundation led Sherman to collaborate with Grammy-winning keyboardist Glen Pearson, Motown and Fantasy Records producer and guitarist Gregory Crockett, and others. His vocal expertise expanded after working with Capitol Records recording artist Bert Robinson, who honed Sherman's skills in breathing, intonation, and phrasing.
Current Projects and Collaborations
Currently, Al Sherman focuses on collaborating with world-class saxophonist Tony Exum Jr., whose performance of Sherman's song 'Heart of Christmas' brought the sheet music to life. Sherman exclaims, “He virtually took the song off the paper and murdered it to life.”
Another exciting project is a sultry ballad performed by Dre Lane, entitled 'Undeniable Incredible', co-written with Sherman. Upcoming projects include a jazz album with Glen Pearson and a Latin-inspired song by Gregory Crockett, written and produced by Sherman, titled 'Mona Yo Quiero Tu Lisa (Mona I Want Your Lisa)'.
At Flawless Productions, the team believes in a unique approach to music:
“Music Does Not Have To Be Perfect When It’s Flawless.”
